Hullo! I wanted to enquire and see some of y'alls opinions on how long to baste and float acclimate. Usually nosotros drip and float acclimate our fish for at least 1 hour and maybe 20 minutes tops. Nosotros asked our LFS if this was the best recommended fourth dimension to do and then and they said to only practise information technology for 30 minutes tops.. And so I would honey to come across your opinions on this and the fourth dimension y'all dip/bladder acclimate and if it's worked out good for y'all.

Thank you,
Josett Waid

Drip acclimatize equally little as possible. I just acclimatize fortemp, that's information technology.
Alright thanks! The reason I inquire as well is because nosotros've been to another fish shop that'southward not our usual LFS and they said to acclimate for the i hour and 20 minutes so this was confusing us quite a bit.

If the salinity is the same in your water vs the lfs water and then I would say minimal. If the levels are far autonomously I would acclimate for at least 30 minutes.

If information technology'south a fish from an LFS, longer would be better (information technology actually takes fish a few days, non a few hours to 100% acclimate to a college salinity).

If information technology'southward a fish that was ordered online, no more than 30 minutes - and even that is pushing information technology. When the bag is opened and the water exposed to fresh air, it allows the trapped CO2 to escape, which in plow allows the less harmful ammonium that has built upward in the water to plough into much more toxic ammonia.

The only style to prevent serious damage to the fish is to get them out of it adequately quickly ... or to add together a few drops of a water conditioner such as Seachem Prime number, Seachem StressGuard, or Kent Ammonia Detox (to name just a few) to transport water the moment you begin acclimation.

NOTE: I would Not use such a conditioner when acclimating fish from an LFS. They will not take been in the send water long plenty to cause any existent ammonium build upward. AND, some LFSs used copper meds in their water. Nearly ammonia removing conditioners volition chemically react with the copper and grade a poison that is simply as toxic to the fish every bit ammonia (if non more then).

If it's a fish from an LFS, longer would be ameliorate (it actually takes fish a few days, not a few hours to 100% acclimatize to a higher salinity).
Intertidal bony fish don't possess any special mechanism for dealing with salinity changes than total marine bony fish. So if you think how quickly salinity can change in intertidal zones, whether the tide is coming in or going out, salinity going up or going downward. Bony fishes are well equipped to handle these kind of changes.

If you have a qt, using that to acclimate the fish gradually to a college salinity is great, only if a fish is being added straight to a dt, the acclimation procedure is very stressful.

Yep, I call up the whole notion of acclimation to salinity is waaaaay overrated. If yous have a QT, lucifer salinity; if non don't elevate information technology out.
